Occurrence in nature: Chromium is present in all types of soils. The one source of contamination is industrial wastes. Agricultural soil may also contain high levels of chromium as a result of fertilization with sewage sludge.
Occurrence in tobacco: Chromium is taken up from the agricultural soil by the roots of the tobacco plant as a pollution and is transported to the leaves. Chromium has no function in the plant.
