TSNA
Occurrence in nature: Tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNA) are not naturally present in the environment but can be a constituent in dry tobacco as a result of unfavorable conditions.
Occurrence in tobacco: The group of TSNA includes four different nitrosamines, NNN (N-nitrosonornicotine), NNK ((4-methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone), NAB (1-nitrosoanabasine) and NAT (N-nitrosoanatabine). These compounds are not present in the green tobacco plant but may be formed at certain unfavorable conditions during drying and processing of the tobacco.
Occurrence in foodstuffs: TSNA is only present in dry tobacco, not in foodstuffs. There exists no threshold value for TSNA in foodstuffs in Sweden.
