The history of snus

In the 16th century, Swedes began to mix tobacco leaves with salt and water to place behind the upper lip. The snuff was born.


Prior to that however, the predecessor went from the caribbean, into the French court and then across Europe as the latest fashion.


For Swedish Match, sustainability entails generating value for the company and its stakeholders mindful of the people and the environment in our value chain, and the world around us. We report our sustainability performance according to the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) framework and we are currently conducting a survey on what sustainability aspects our stakeholders find material to the company.
