Organization

Swedish Match organization consists of five operating units, along with strategic partnerships/associated companies.

The head office, where the CEO and Group staff functions are based, is located in Stockholm. Production units are located in: Brazil, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden, and the US. The average number of employees in the Group during 2013 was 4,382.

Corporate Headquarters

Corporate functions consist of CEO office, finance, business control, legal, and investor relations and corporate sustainability. The Group's Corporate Headquarters are located in Stockholm, Sweden.

Scandinavia Division

Scandinavia Division is responsible for the supply of the Group’s smokefree products. In addition, the division is responsible for developing new products and improving the current product portfolio. The Division is also responsible for sales and marketing in Sweden and Norway as well as the Travel Retail/ Horeca/ Online Sales. The division’s Global Consumer Insights function is responsible for insight capability building, central insight storage and analysis, and for ensuring that product development is based on appropriate consumer insight. The division has the entire commercial responsibility in this region. Focus is on growing the smokefree category in Scandinavia through efficient sales processes, value creating customer relations and marketing activities. The head office is located in Stockholm, Sweden.

US Division

US Division is responsible for sales and marketing of snus, snuff, and chewing tobacco in the US. The division also has the full responsibility for US mass market cigars, including supply chain. The division’s focus is on the sales process, trade category management and go-to-market strategies in order to secure quality distribution and expand the share of market for moist snuff. The US Division also focuses on building the category for Swedish snus in the US. For the US mass market cigars and chewing tobacco categories, the continued focus is on profitability and value creation. The head office is located in Richmond, Virginia, US.

Lights Latin America

Lights Latin America manufactures and markets matches and lighters in Latin America through its own sales force. The unit also sells other products (e.g. razors, tooth picks etc). The head office is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Lights International

Lights International manufactures and markets matches and lighters outside Latin America with production in the Netherlands, the Philippines and Sweden. The unit has its own sales company in Turkey and a wide network of distribution partners worldwide, with STG as an important partner. The head office is located in Stockholm, Sweden.

SMD Logistics AB

SMD Logistics AB distributes mainly tobacco products in the Swedish market. Distribution takes place from two distribution centers (Stockholm and Gothenburg) to around 10,000 stores, in principle enabling complete coverage of the Swedish retail sector. All major tobacco companies in the market are customers, which gives the distribution company a strong position in the tobacco segment. SMD Logistics AB also distributes prescription free pharmaceuticals to the Swedish trade. The head office is located in Stockholm. 

Strategic partnerships / associated companies

Two strategic partnerships reinforce the Group strategy and business operations; the joint venture company (SMPM International) equally owned by Swedish Match and Philip Morris International and the 49 percent ownership in the new Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG). SMPM International was established to develop new snus markets outside Scandinavia and the US as part of the goal to become the global smokefree leader. The new STG has market leading positions in cigars, pipe tobacco and fine cut tobacco, and Swedish Match aims to realize the full potential of the new STG through an active ownership.
